An instructor at a writing workshop asked us attendees to send in a photo "of the real you". Don't overthink it, she wrote, "just send a picture that feels authentic". I had to micro-obsess over what she meant, of course, so I looked up the etymology of the word "authentic". Turns out it stems from the ancient Greek -- "acting on one's own authority". And then I knew just which photo to pick.
